Introduction of Environmental Engineering Department

Environmental Engineering focuses on the application of scientific and engineering principles to protect human and the environments from adverse impacts of contaminations, such as water and wastewater pollution, air pollution, and soil contamination, and to improve the quality of the environment.

Environmental engineering graduates will have excellent job opportunities in the field of environmental engineering. With expertise in designing, planning, training, managing, consulting, and doing research, they are able work in various sectors relating to environmental fields, including business, industry, government, and academia.

The Department of Environmental Engineering specializes its research and education in:

  • Environmental pollution controls (e.g., wastewater treatment, solid waste/hazardous waste treatment, waste disposal and recycling, and air pollution control which includes the removal of dust, odor, volatile organic carbon, SOx, NOx, CO, and toxic pollutants)
  • Improvement of urban water utilities and development of water reclamation
  • Modelling and reliability assessment of water supply and sewage systems
  • Development of biomass energy sources
  • Health, safety, and environment in industry
  • Contaminated soil remediation
  • Cleaner production, and waste and energy audits
  • Sludge treatment
  • Ecological engineering
