B. Objectives and learning outcomes, Teaching Methods and Assessment Methods

 

  1. Ojectives

The main objectives of the NREM programme cover a wide range of characteristics to meet the requirements of stakeholders and the labour market, including general knowledge in mathematics and science, skill for analysis and evaluation, soft skills (independent working, teamwork, communication, and foreign language), socio-economic points of view, long-life study, and professional ethics.

Upon the completion of the major in NREM programme, graduates are able to meet the following objectives:

  • Objective 1. To apply general knowledge of mathematics, natural science, technology, and management in the field of natural resources and environment management for solving concerning issues in their professional practices.
  • Objective 2. To perform skills in analysis and evaluation by applying approaches and solutions to environmental issues effectively, efficiently, and sustainably.
  • Objective 3. To work independently and to pursue higher education in natural resources and environmental management.
  • Objective 4. To have a good understanding and recognition of contemporary issues in politics, legislation, society, and career ethics.
  • Objective 5. To have a fully equipped communication skill, teamwork, and foreign language (English) to gain leadership positions in professional careers.
  1. Learning Outcomes
  • An ability to apply general knowledge of mathematics, natural sciences, and technology to solve problems in the field of environmental and natural resources management (Understand and Apply).
  • An ability to organise and conduct experiments on waste treatment systems (solid waste, wastewater, and air pollution) for analysing and interpreting results (Analyse).
  • An ability to evaluate and adjust feasible technology and to design a full-scale technical system to meet desired needs include manufacturability and other constraints in terms of finance, environment, society, and ethics (Evaluate and Create).
  • An ability to work as a successful team member on multi-tasking and multi-disciplinary issues by leading, scheduling, operating, reporting, and interpreting data (Understand, Apply and Analyse).
  • An ability to identify, classify, and solve environmental and resources management problems (Understand and Apply).
  • An ability to recognise career ethics and social responsibilities (Understand and Apply).
  • An ability to use foreign language (English) to communicate effectively in terms of describing, interpreting/presenting, reporting and translating (Apply).
  • An ability to recognise and apply knowledge to solve natural resources and environmental issues in the context of economic, environmental, and social considerations (Understand and Apply).
  • An ability to recognise the need for and motivation to promoting life-long learning (Understand).
  • An ability to apply broad knowledge on contemporary issues and latest technologies based on knowledge and skills obtained from theoretical and practical courses (Apply).
  • An ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools (including AutoCAD, laboratory analysis instruments and equipment, GIS/RS software (MapInfo, ArcGIS), and environmental modelling software) necessary for the management practices of environment and natural resources (Apply).
  1. Career Opportunities

Natural Resources and Environmental Management Engineers can meet the recruitment needs and work at the national and local state agency on environment, projects management board, manufacturing enterprises, industrial areas, non-governmental organizations, domestic and foreign environmental consulting firms and centers, research institutes and universities specialized in environmental resource management.

  • State management offices often recruit engineers of Environmental Management and Technology Science graduated from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, such as Provincial Ministry and Department of Environment and Natural Resources; Provincial Conservation Department; Environmental Monitoring Center of the province; Ministry and Department of Science and Technology; Ministry and Department of Agriculture and Rural Development; District-based Department of Environmental and Natural Resources Management…
  • Management Board of national, provincial, municipal, local projects such as of environmental sanitation and drainage basin improvement, renovation of river-basin water in quality, provincial management of solid waste, industrial zone and EPZ management, etc.
  • Companies often recruit engineers of Environmental Management and Technology graduated from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, including: SEEN, Energy Development Center (EDEC), Nike Vietnam, Clover Technologies Group, and the environmental consulting firm with advisory functions in setting up feasibility report for projects relating to the environment, natural resources, report for environmental impact assessment and for local / national / regional development planning, etc.
