Introduction of Resources and Environmental Informatics Department
Resources and Environmental Informatics serves as the bridge between computing and information technology. It specific application fields include government and public policy, environmental economics, environmental protection, sustainable development, natural resources management, environmental quality monitoring, and climate change adaptation.
Graduates of Resources and Environmental Informatics program can have excellent job opportunities. They are able work directly in the field of computing and information science. Furthermore, they can have opportunities to apply their expertise in information science to work in environmental related fields, such as environmental management, natural resources management, and environmental science in industry, academia, government, and non-profit organizations.
Department of Resources and Environmental Informatics specialized its research and education in:
- Applications of space technology for sustainable development and natural resources management
- Monitoring ground deformation by using PS InSAR technique;
- Application of unmanned aerial vehicle in order to monitor the progress of construction works
- Integrating GIS and GPS in transportation management and monitoring
- Integrating GIS and remote sensing in the monitoring of urban development and analysis of surface coating fluctuations
- Remote sensing applications and computing models in environmental quality monitoring, and effect of "urban heat island"
- Monitoring natural disasters and climate change (e.g., drought, salinity intrusion, and CO2 emissions)
- Public policy in the protection of natural resources and environmental monitoring
